Lancaster County, NEGenWeb Calvary Cemetery A Surnames This cemetery is located at 40th & O Street. The first owner, of that legal description was Albert Estebrooke, who received a Patent from the U. S. Government, Nov. 30, 1869. This was signed by President Ulysses S. Grant. The obituaries, in the early newspapers, reported the burials being made in St. Theresa's cemetery. St. Theresa Church was established in 1868 at 13th & M St., Lincoln, NE. Later, in 1887, it was enlarged and called St. Theresa ProCathedral. In July 1876, Father Curtis held a meeting in Lincoln for the purpose of discussing the purchase of ten acres for a cemetery. In October 1876, he reported that the ten acres cost $451. There was an additional cost of $100 for surveying. At that time, Father John Curtis was pastor of St. Theresa Church in Lincoln. In 1930, a Title was received from Rev. John J. Glennon, and then deeded from the Catholic Bishop of Lincoln to the Calvary Cemetery Association, Dec. 30, 1930. The first burial recorded, was that of Michael Shea, age 45 yrs., Dec. 19, 1869. There was a death in the St. Theresa Parish, Oct. 1869, of Henry Armon, but no recording of his burial.
